Team Ontario starts with the coaching staff!

The Ontario Lacrosse Association is pleased to announce the following Head Coaches and coaching staff for PeeWee and Bantam Teams Ontario.

Derek Keenan – PeeWee Team Ontario Head Coach 2007

       Derek Keenan brings plenty of experience to the O.L.A. National Program in both playing and coaching. Derek began his playing career in 1968 with the Oshawa Minor Lacrosse Association. There are many highlights of his playing career.  He graduated to the Junior A ranks in 1977 playing for the Oshawa Green Gaels and was named the Most Valuable Player in 1979. Derek is also a Jr. A scoring leader with a total of 1086 career points (including play-offs.) Derek then moved on to play Major A lacrosse for the Brooklin Redmen where he was named the OLA MVP in 1987 and 1988 and is in the Top 20 All Time Scoring in the Mann Cup History. 
Derek played lacrosse while attending University at Ithaca College, New York, and was declared an N.C.A.A. All American in 1984, 1985 and 1987. He was Rookie of the Year in 1992 with the M.I.L.L. while playing for the Buffalo Bandits, and was named All Pro in 1992 and 1993.
Currently Derek is the General Manager and Head Coach of the Portland Lumberjax of the N.L.L. and was named Coach of the Year in 2006. He has extensive coaching experience at the pro level dating back to 1999 where he was a player-coach with the Toronto Rock. Derek has had coaching experience dating back to 1991 when he was the Head Coach for the Toronto Beaches Jr. A. team. Recently Derek has coached at the minor level for Whitby Minor Lacrosse.
The Oshawa Hall of Fame recently announced Derek’s induction at its annual dinner in May of this year.
The Ontario Lacrosse Association and PeeWee Team Ontario welcomes Derek back as the Head Coach for the 2007 PeeWee National Tournament!Derek currently resides in Oshawa, Ontario with his wife Wendy and children Ryan and Kianna.

Corny Derks – Bantam Team Ontario Head Coach 2007

I   Cornelius (Corny) Derks – Head Coach Bantam Team Ontario

 Bantam Team Ontario is pleased to have Corny Derks back as the Head Coach for the 2007 National Bantam Tournament. Corny successfully coached Bantam Team Ontario in the 2005 Bantam Nationals – winning the tournament with a 9-0 record.
Corny started his lacrosse-playing career as an intermediate player, and played Junior B in Whitby and Ajax.
Coach Derks brings plenty of coaching experience to Bantam Team Ontario. He started coaching lacrosse 38 years ago, coaching house league in Whitby then moving up to the rep level a year later. He also coached at the minor level in Scarborough and East Gwillimbury.
Corny has coached 15 OLA club teams to Provincial Finals 12 times, and he has coached both PeeWee and Bantam teams attending Nationals in the 1980’s to victory. He has also coached four OLA bantam provincial ‘A’ teams to a gold win.
In London, Ontario in 2006 Team Nederland was coached by Corny at the Men’s World Field Lacrosse Tournament.
In 2006 Corny was honoured with the top Ontario Lacrosse Association award – The Mr. Lacrosse Award.
Bantam Team Ontario will be well served with Corny Derks as the Head Coach for 2007.
Corny, who owns several businesses including landscaping & pools and home building,  lives in Oshawa with his wife Darlene.
